Belle and Sebastian happen to be one of my favorite bands. Up until the ‘Life Pursuit’ album I had no idea what they looked like. Call this cutting edge or hiding their faces from the spotlight. I don’t know.
But recently the front man Stuart Murdoch has put out a new album based off of a project involving all female singers. It’s called ‘God Help The Girl’ and from what I have heard of it I love it. Read more from his Pitchfork interview here.
One of my favorite songs off of ‘Life Pursuit’ was the up tempo diddy called ‘Funny Little Frog’. I found it very interesting to see him use this again on this project. The arrangement is very similar but the song takes on a complete new landscape with a female voice leading it. I still love the original but the comparison is very fun.
First is the original album version then the new version from the ‘God Help The Girl’ project. Agree with me or disagree but the male / female voice choice COMPLETELY changes the vibe of the tune.
