What exactly is indie music?

post brought to you by: dyson

cigarettesThe term indie music is thrown around all the time. And it always leads me to question what that term exactly defines. Is Arcade Fire still considered indie? How about The Shins? Probably not.

This year I came across the rawest form of indie I have ever experienced in my years of music listening. And I didn’t have to look further than the dyson name for it. It came from an unknown artist called Greg Dyson (yes, we’re related)

Greg and I have been trading music back and forth for a while now but I am always impressed with what he gives me in return. I give him albums to listen to, he gives music of his own to listen to. The steep progression into amazing has been a swift trip for him and I couldn’t be happier. His father is a very well established musician and his brother is not far behind.

So the best gift I received this holiday season was a very poorly wrapped CD sitting by the exit on my way out of the usual family get together on Christmas day. I couldn’t wait to pop it in the player in the car on the way home.

I wasn’t disappointed. He has taken the term indie to the max. While all of us are out there worrying about CD sales or Twitter followers or myspace plays, Greg is only concerned with giving people he loves the art he loves making.

The second tune is off of an early release of his with the BEST name I could think of for an album ‘Cigarettes Don’t Hurt My Feelings Like You Do’.

I only see good things happening for an artist who puts all of his heart into their craft. And Greg certainly does this.

I Love it! Greg has a bright future ahead for himself. He’ll become more known as times passes, and he has established himself coming out of Evergreen State U
