There are bands I listen to once and make a snap judgment if I will be into them or not. If someone showed me one track by Kid:Nap:Kin I would probably pass. All I can say is I am SO glad this wasn’t the case with them.
Kid:Nap:Kin is a Boston born band who has some of the most devoted followers I’ve ever met. Their music is like coffee, beer, or Bob Dylan. You get a little taste and kind of understand the appeal, but know that people are really into it. Then you get the second and third taste and say “HOLY SHIT. I NEED more of this”. Am I comparing Kid:Nap:Kin to a drug? Seems so.
I was lucky enough to work with them in their early days and continue to watch the growth into where they are today. Shit, I remember tracking vocals for their very first EP when their name was still being tossed around as a joke.
Kid:Nap:Kin has been through a few lineup changes but the heart and soul has always remained with Dan Ellis (gtr and vox) and Patrick Hanlin (drums and vox). But let’s take a second to pour one out for Austin, Adam, and especially Jamila Weaver who brought the sexy black chick mohawk vibe into a duo of scrappy rockers. Neil Taylor has since joined the ranks on bass to make Kid:Nap:Kin what they are today.
See if this completely stripped down camera audio tingles any bone inside you:
That is a snip from ‘Show Me All The Blueprints’ on their last record “Hush Now”. It’s an album I put on repeat for weeks after it was released. Like every good album, it got better with each listen. If you’re interested, give it a preview and grab it from iTunes. No matter what music you’re into, I really believe you’ll get hooked.
