Based out of NYC but originally formed in my stomping grounds of Boston, MA on March 17, 2006 at 9:34 p.m, Hooray for Earth are a 4 piece who have recently been introduced to my listening library. And their music is definitely here to stay in heavy rotation.
I hate slapping a genre on a band. But if I had to come up with something based off of their latest EP “Momo”, I’d say they were “a group with some synths, great vocals, a full sound, innovative songwriting, and something you’d be hard pressed not to enjoy”.
I haven’t tested it yet, but I’d imagine “Momo” to be a great album to put on with some big ass headphones, and listen to while riding a train in or out of NYC. Why do I think that? It’s an album that could fit the mood I know very well from taking that trip many times in my life. Other than that? I don’t know, it’s music, it makes you feel something!
Hooray for Earth pack a fully fleshed out punch throughout the 6 songs on “Momo”. Each fit extremely well together and without a doubt keep you entertained. Twisted vocals, grooves, and synth lines pack this record full of interesting bits to keep you coming back for more. Take ‘Scaling’ for example. Remember those Animal Collective guys? Well, imagine if they took their creativity to make some descent, palatable music. That’s what ‘Scaling’ brings you.
Have a listen to the great opener ‘Surrounded By Your Friends’ and then check out the awesome video for ‘Get Home’.
