Alex Kemp – Rat D’Hotel – Part II

post brought to you by: dyson

Two weeks ago I heard an exclusive track on A Heart Is A Spade by an unknown artist (to me) named Alex Kemp. This brilliantly catchy, perfectly produced , off the cuff gem of a song got me hooked and I had to find out more.

Alex Kemp’s website is a blast to visit, but can be tricky to provide the greater details I was seeking about him. So I did my digging and found what I was looking for.

Kemp is a true artist. RISD grad, musician, and dreamer of 1920′s Paris. His collection of 3 EPs titled Rat D’Hotel tell the story of a Parisian mouse down on his luck. Intriguing, right? (don’t take that sarcastically, I mean it)

With the first EP released, (contact him on the site for a limited copy) Kemp moves on to Part II – Rat Hears Love Through Thin Walls. I’m really not going to say much more because you’re lucky enough to be able to stream the whole EP below and download the track that got me hooked on Kemp’s music.

If you’re not aware of them, definitely dig into Alex’s former, beloved (and much-missed) Providence trio, Small Factory. A seminal northeastern indie-rock band from the early-mid 90s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_Factory

He also had a band after that with Phoebe Summersquash (best name ever), Small Factory’s drummer, called The Godrays.
