There’s no shortage of great music in Chicago. And to be more exact, there’s no shortage of great music all around the world. But Filligar shows us that Wilco isn’t the only band to come out strong from the amazing city of Chicago.
This group of three brothers and one long time friend have been playing together for nearly a decade and have released some amazing records. Their latest “The Nerve” is one of their finest. It’s such a cohesive, flowing record that takes you through the Led Zeppelin (although not the best comparison) style of putting a record together. You get the rootsy rockers, the short transitional tunes, and the low key slower tunes reminiscent of ‘The Battle of Evermore’.
Needless to say, “The Nerve” is a record very worthy of putting in your collection.
Filligar are definitely touring junkies. Just check out the list of concert dates on their site. I could only imagine their live show is one to take in. Their sound is one that translates great onto record, but definitely seems more fit for the stage. Sadly there are no Boston dates scheduled for this leg of the tour.
For four guys, the sound is huge yet spacious. Every instrument has room to breath on the record and doesn’t mesh up into a jumble of typical rock stylings. Johnny Mathias has a voice that couldn’t be better suited for their sound. Slight edge but smooth and emotional while fitting right into the full sound they create.
Have a listen to ‘Gray Area’. The intro is a little deceiving from one the rest of what the tune offers. If you grab the record, you’ll be treated to one of those gorgeous transitional songs titled ‘La Revanche’ that leads you right into the amazing B3 filled ‘Architect’.
