Motion Sick vs Golden Bloom 7″

post brought to you by: dyson

What I am writing about might be the best 7″ I’ve ever owned.

At a recent Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin show, I happened to catch Golden Bloom as the opener. Watching Shawn Fogel play with Golden Bloom (members who also play with Neutral Uke Hotel), I very quickly managed to fall in love at first listen.

When I saw that split 7″ sitting on the merch table with The Motion Sick on the other side, my wallet whipped out so fast that even Bruce Lee couldn’t have stopped it.

Shawn Fogel and Michael J. Epstein are some of the hardest working musicians I know in the Boston area. To see them put together on one 7″ was a thing of beauty. Each group has a ton of songs that could be showcased but the ones chosen for this release are absolutely stellar.

’30 Lives’ and ‘Doomsday Devices’ are perfect from start to finish. I’m slowly starting to wear solid grooves in this record. And I know split 7″s are meant to show you a taste of each bands sound, but I can’t keep this record off of my table.

I wish I could let you hear the music and download the tracks, but that wouldn’t be fair to my favorite split 7″ ever. Go ahead and shell out the $1.75 for the digital download or $5 for the 7″ like I did. I PROMISE you will not be disappointed.

Happy listening to all.

It’s an excellent split album. Both bands have their own incredible back-catalogs to check out. Boston readers should check out The Motion Sick’s show this upcoming Saturday. It’s a good pick since the band is taking a hiatus as all the members’ own side projects are very busy right now.

I’m checking out Golden Bloom’s Fan the Flames today. I enjoyed their set last week…curious to see how good the album is.
